Is Discreet Dating Anonymous?
Short answer: no. Discreet dating is about controlling who can find you and who can reach you. Anonymity is a much stronger claim — and one no dating platform can honestly make.
18+ only
The distinction
Discreet is privacy, not anonymity
The two words are used interchangeably in marketing. They mean very different things in practice.
Privacy (what is real)
You decide how widely your profile is shown, which photos are public, who gets access to a private album, and who can start a conversation with you. Those are controls over distribution and reachability, and you can change them.
Anonymity (what is not)
Anonymity would mean nobody — not another member, not the platform — could connect your profile to you. That is incompatible with uploading photos, describing yourself and holding an account. Treat any platform promising "100% anonymous dating" with suspicion.
What you control
The controls that actually exist
Every one of these is a real setting or behaviour in the product.
- • Alias, not identity. Your profile carries an alias. Your real name, email and date of birth are not shown; only a derived age is public.
- • Profile visibility. Your discovery settings decide how widely you surface to other members. Highly Discreet mode limits your visibility in Discovery.
- • Interaction control. One-to-one messaging opens only after a connection request is accepted — there is no open inbox.
- • Private photos. Public photos are visible to signed-in members; private album photos stay locked until you approve a request, and you can revoke that access later.
- • Blocking and reporting. Blocking removes someone from your experience; reports go to human review.
Limits
What discretion cannot do for you
Honest limits are more useful than reassuring claims.
- • It cannot stop someone recognising your face, your tattoo, your car or the view from your balcony.
- • It cannot stop a person you shared a photo with from capturing it. Anyone who can see an image can potentially keep a copy.
- • It cannot undo something you typed. Your workplace, neighbourhood or routine, once shared, is out of your control.
- • It cannot make you invisible to the platform. We hold the account data needed to operate the service and meet legal obligations.
